  10. In 1991, Sergei became the first pole vaulter 
  11. to clear 20 feet. Sergei is still the only vaulter 
  12. who has cleared 20 feet, and he has done it 
  13. nine times! He holds the world records of 20' 
  14. 1 3/4" outdoors and 20' 2 1/8" indoors.

  17. began vaulting seriously when he was 15 
  18. years old. Four years later, in 1983, he
